What causes indoor air pollution?

Many common items may contribute to poor indoor air quality in your Concord residence.

This includes:

  • Chemicals in [carpet, furniture and drapes that give off fumes
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Paint
  • Personal care products
  • Air fresheners and candles

Though they are usually more efficient, newer homes don’t ventilate the way older homes do. Secure weather stripping and storm doors keep indoor air in and exterior air out. This gives more energy savings, but the lowered exchange of outdoor and indoor air can cause pollutants accumulating indoors.

In these circumstances, a whole-house ventilation system is suggested. Ventilation systems exchange polluted indoor air for cleaner outside air without sacrificing energy savings.
