The Ban on R22 Refrigerant
R-22 Refrigerant Phasing Out
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) determined that R-22 refrigerant (also known as the brand FREON®), a common refrigerant for residential heat pumps and air conditioning systems, has a negative impact on the environment. The EPA is regulating the production and use of refrigerants and eventually all the air conditioning and heat pump refrigerants that contain chlorine will be eliminated.
What does this mean for you?
If you currently have a heating and cooling system that uses R-22 refrigerant, you don’t need to panic or run out to purchase a new system. Production of R-22 refrigerant is winding down, and while the costs will rise, production will go on until 2020. At that point recycled refrigerants should be accessible for a while.
As a result of the change, Freschi Service Experts in Antioch carries R410A, a more environmentally friendly option for refrigerants which will reduce the damage to the ozone layer. Up to half of home energy costs may go toward heating and cooling the home. We’re committed to offering products that are less taxing on the environment while achieving your desire for a comfortable heating and cooling system.
